Tony
Iommi and Ian Gillan Give Musical Gifts to
Armenian Music School

World famous rock musicians Ian
Gillan (Deep Purple) and Tony Iommi (Black
Sabbath, Heaven and Hell) sent musical
instruments as a gift to the N6 musical
school in Gyumri.
Professional musical instruments from Fender
Musical Instruments Corporation were
supplied to Yerevan: 4 acoustic guitars of
the Japanese Takamine Company and a
Blackhawk drum kit of the Gretsch Drums
Company. The musicians also gave Paiste
сcymbals and Vic Firth drumsticks, presented
by John Henrys Ltd.
On October 1, 2009, Ian Gillan and Toni
Iommi visited the N 6 music school in Gyumri
within the framework of Armenia Grateful 2
Rock project, realized by Mediamax and
Australian “Do Something” organization. The
director of the school, Harutyun Asatryan,
spoke with the rock stars informing them
that the pupils would love to have new
musical instruments to practice with. The N
6 music school in Gyumri was destroyed
during 1988 earthquake and is still hosted
in temporary shelters.
“We express huge gratitude to the great
musicians for their attention towards
Armenian children, who study music in
difficult conditions. Almost 5 months have
passed from the time of Gillan and Iommi’s
visit to Armenia, but this present is
evidences that their sincere wish to help
the Armenian school has not become weaker to
any extent. I want to also sincerely thank
the managers of the musicians Ralph Baker
and Phil Banfield, who directly dealt with
acquisition of the instruments”, Mediamax
Director Ara Tadevosyan stated.

* HEAVEN
& HELL TO HEADLINE BLOODSTOCK 2010 *

Heavy Metal Legends
HEAVEN & HELL have been confirmed as
headline act for BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2010.
The metal masters have chosen to headline
the 10th anniversary of the festival,
crowning an already incredible line up,
befitting such an important milestone.
Living legend/Guitarist TONY IOMMI
commented:
“Great for Geezer and me
to play somewhere near to home, even better
to headline a legendary festival. Thanks for
the opportunity!”
BLOODSTOCK more than
welcomes their appearance. Says founder Paul
Gregory:
“10 years of bringing the
UK a METAL festival that metalheads can be
proud of has just been made better with the
announcement of Heaven and Hell. As a fan to
say I'm made up with the announcement would
be the understatement of the millennium.
This year Bloodstock has come of age”
BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR is
undoubtedly the UK’s most loyal festival to
the metal genre. A performance featuring
members of BLACK SABBATH - the true pioneers
of the genre - at this special 10 year
anniversary is an occasion for any metal fan
to celebrate, and one the BLOODSTOCK
attendees will welcome with heart, body and
soul. The promise of RONNIE JAMES DIO, TONY
IOMMI, GEEZER BUTLER and VINNY APICE
performing classic SABBATH songs such as
“The Mob Rules”, “Lady Evil”, “Die Young”
and “Neon Knights” will surely be one of the
stand out moments in the 10 year history of
BLOODSTOCK, and is not to be missed.
The BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR
METAL FESTIVAL 2010 will take place at
Catton Hall, Derbyshire from 13th – 15th
August.

Tony Iommi, 'inventor of
Heavy Metal' and
Monitor Audio join forces to
promote superior sound

Tony Iommi, the founding
member of metal gods Black Sabbath and
Monitor Audio, the award winning, quality
audio innovators have united for an
advertising campaign which is sure to strike
a chord with rock fans all over the globe.
Michael Johnson, marketing
manager of Monitor Audio said, ‘we were
looking for a new creative to showcase some
of the technological audio advances we have
made at Monitor Audio since the company was
formed. We were keen to work with a musician
and what better way than to team up with the
inventor of some of the most recognizable
guitar riffs in rock history?’
‘I’m delighted to be
associated with Monitor Audio and I’m a huge
fan of their products’, said Tony Iommi,
‘Monitor Audio have certainly been
responsible for many great audio innovations
over the last 35 years and I’m really
pleased to have helped to make this happen.’
Look out for the new Monitor
Audio advertisement which shows Tony Iommi
standing next to a Monitor Audio Platinum
PL300 speaker beneath the words,
‘In 1971 Tony Iommi took rock
from E to C-sharp and invented the sound of
heavy metal. His de-tuned SG injected every
Sabbath riff with a darker, more penetrating
intensity, inspiring generations to pursue
the perfect tone’.
Tony uses Monitor Audio's
flagship Platinum PL300 speakers in a
2-channel system along with a mix of Radius
HD and GS10 speakers for home cinema and
studio duties respectively.
‘The performance of Monitor
Audio products is outstanding’, adds Iommi,
‘Each part of the range is also incredibly
versatile and they look great too’.
As well as his work with
Black Sabbath, Tony is a successful solo
artist and he was worked with many of rock's
top names lending their talents to his work.
These include Henry Rollins, Dave Grohl,
Billy Corgan, Phil Anselmo and Ozzy Osbourne
Other notable milestones for
Iommi include being voted Number One in
Guitar World's
"100 Greatest Metal Guitarists of All Time"
and seeing Black Sabbath inducted into the
UK and US Rock Hall’s of Fame.
In late 2006, Tony reunited
with Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler and
Vinny Appice to form ‘Heaven & Hell’. They
have become an enormously successful
recording and touring band ever since.

Rock legends
given top ‘Order of Honor’ award by the
President of Armenia
Artistes from Black Sabbath, Deep
Purple, Pink Floyd, Queen, Iron Maiden,
Asia, Yes, Rush and
The Who are receiving formal state awards as
part of Armenia’s 20th anniversary
celebrations of
‘Rock Aid Armenia’ – a UK initiative that
recruited rock’s biggest names to raise
funds for victims of the
1988 Armenian earthquake that killed 25,000
people and made half a million homeless.
As part of these celebrations, some of the
rock legends are travelling to Armenia to
receive the
‘Order of Honor’ – the highest state award
that Armenia can bestow on foreign citizens.
The decree
granting the ‘Order of Honor’ was personally
signed by Armenian President H.E. Serzh
Sargsyan.
Ian Gillan from Deep Purple, Tony Iommi from
Black Sabbath, Geoff Downes from Asia and
Rock Aid Armenia organiser Jon Dee will
receive the major award in person at a
Friday October 2
ceremony in the Armenian capital of Yerevan.
Former
Wimbledon tennis champion Pat Cash, who
played a role in the Rock Aid Armenia
initiative,
will also be in Yerevan to receive an award
from the Armenian Prime Minister.
As part of the events, the artists will
travel to the earthquake zone to visit the
towns of Gyumri and
Spitak that were so devastated in the
earthquake on December 7, 1988. Gillan and
Dee last visited the
area in May 1990, so they’ll be able to see
what has been achieved and what still needs
to be done.
“The 1988 earthquake ripped Armenia apart
and their plight ignited a global response
from people who
broke through the ‘Iron Curtain’ to lend a
hand,” said Jon Dee, the Chairman of Do
Something and
organiser of Rock Aid Armenia.
“Twenty years on, many people in the
earthquake zone are still in much need of
help and support.
As part of this trip we’ll personally be
visiting the affected areas to identify
projects that the artistes can
support as part of the 20th anniversary
celebrations. More details on our plans will
be announced soon.”
The Rock Aid Armenia project was best known
for its top 40 remake of Deep Purple’s
classic
‘Smoke on the Water’. The initiative raised
over $100,000 which was spent on projects
such as
therapy and assistance for children affected
by the disaster.
In addition to Gillan, Iommi, Downes and
Dee, David Gilmour from Pink Floyd and Brian
May from Queen have also been given the
‘Order of Honor’. “It’s a real privilege for
all the Rock Aid Armenia artistes to be
formally acknowledged by Armenia for the
help that they gave,” said Dee.
A venerable line-up of artists is also
receiving ‘The Honorary Medal of the Prime
Minister of Armenia’
for their Rock Aid Armenia contributions.
These include Brian Eno, Bryan Adams, Bruce
Dickinson (Iron
Maiden), Roger Taylor (Queen), Roger Daltrey
(The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Paul Rodgers
(Bad
Company), Keith Emerson (ELP), Chris Squire
(Yes), John McEnroe and Anthea
Norman-Taylor. Ritchie
Blackmore who played his venerable ‘Smoke on
the Water’ riff on the project also receives
the award.
The ‘Armenia Grateful to Rock’ celebrations
have been organised by the Armenian Mediamax
media
company and the Australian ‘Do Something!’
organisation, that was set up by Rock Aid
Armenia’s Jon Dee and Pat Cash.
ArmRusGazprom are the major sponsor of the
events and BMI are the sponsor and official
air carrier.

HEAVEN & HELL
TAKE THE DEVIL ON THE ROAD
Ronnie James
Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny
Appice
Schedule North American Tour Dates For
August
Coheed And Cambria To Be Featured As Support
For Month Long Trek
Tickets For Most Dates On Sale The Weekend
Of May 8
LOS ANGELES — Heaven & Hell, the quartet of
Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler,
and Vinny Appice, will bring their wicked
world tour to North America for a select
number of shows this August. The band will
start their summer headlining music
festivals across Europe before bringing
their macabre stage show of metal classics
to North America starting on August 7 in
Vancouver. Tickets for most shows go on sale
the weekend of May 8. There will also be a
presale for all shows, except Baltimore,
beginning May 6 at 10AM local time. Coheed
And Cambria will provide support on all
shows except the Seattle date on August 8,
which will feature Neurosis in the
supporting slot.
On April 28, Heaven & Hell released their
first album in 17 years THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
and the highly anticipated set did not
disappoint. Revolver Magazine declared it
“an album of ageless metal anthems” and The
Associated Press praised its “bone-crunching
riffs and power chords that can loosen the
phlegm in your chest.” The band plans to mix
in several tracks from THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
into their set of Dio-era Black Sabbath
classics.
Heaven & Hell began writing for THE DEVIL
YOU KNOW last year, first in England at
Iommi’s home studio and later in Los Angeles
at Dio’s studio. “The band had gotten too
good to just walk away,” Dio says. “We
wanted to show people that we were still
capable of giving them new music that
measured up to what we’d done in the past.”
With that goal in mind, the band hit the
Rockfield Studios in Wales last winter and
the result is the 10-song epic THE DEVIL YOU
KNOW.
Coheed And Cambria bring their unique blend
of prog and metal as the supporting act on
the tour. The band just released their
Neverender box set. The 4-CD/5-DVD
collection chronicles a series of 2008 shows
where the band performed all four of their
albums in the same city on consecutive
nights.

ROADRUNNER RECORDS WELCOMES HEAVEN & HELL
Roadrunner Records is honoured to
announce the worldwide signing (ex-North
America, Japan, & Asia) of the highly
respected, legendary group Heaven & Hell.
The label is proud to include Heaven & Hell
in their celebrated roster of bands at the
top of their game.
Heavy metal icons Ronnie James Dio, Tony
Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice are
set to release a brand new album - their
first under the moniker Heaven & Hell, with
Black Sabbath's last studio album having
been 17 YEARS AGO – on April 27. Titled The
Devil You Know, this is an event for every
classic rock and metal fan to get excited
about!
After finishing several heralded world tours
as Heaven & Hell last summer, the
influential band were tighter than ever
before, both musically and personally.
Agreeing that it would be a shame to stop
making music together at tour’s end, the
quartet began writing, first in England at
Iommi’s home studio and later in Los Angeles
at Dio’s studio. “The band had gotten too
good to just walk away,” Dio says. “We
wanted to show people that we were still
capable of giving them new music that
measured up to what we’d done in the past.”
With that goal in mind, the band once again
converged on Rockfield Studios in Wales last
winter, the same place they used 17 years
earlier to record their last album,
Dehumanizer. The result is the long awaited
new album The Devil You Know, featuring 10
soon-to-be-classic tracks from the Dio-fronted
version of Black Sabbath.
Bible Black, the epic first single, begins
with Iommi on acoustic guitar behind Dio’s
plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts to a
menacing stomp for the rest of this dark
tale about a book of sinister scriptures.
One of the first songs written for the
album, Dio says it established a tone for
the rest of the album. “When you start off
with a blockbuster like that, it makes the
rest of the album so much easier because it
gives you a benchmark to measure the other
songs against.”
Iommi proves he hasn’t lost the ability to
inspire six-string envy, unleashing riffs
like a pack of rabid hellhounds on Atom And
Evil, Fear, Neverwhere, and Eating The
Cannibals, a tune about doing more than
biting the hand that feeds. Butler and
Appice slow the pace while ramping up the
intensity on Follow The Tears and Double The
Pain and Breaking Into Heaven, the latter
diverging from its glacial procession for
Dio’s majestic chorus about fallen angels
planning an attack on paradise.
Track Listing:
Atom And Evil
Fear
Bible Black
Double The Pain
Rock And Roll Angel
The Turn Of The Screw
Eating The Cannibals
Follow The Tears
Neverwhere
Breaking Into Heaven
When the songs were finished, Dio says he,
Iommi and Butler marveled at their own
brutal efficiency. “We almost felt guilty to
tell you the truth. We looked at each other
at one point and said: ‘Is it really done? I
can’t do it any better. Can you? No. Then I
guess were done’,” he recalls laughing. “At
the end of the day, I think what separates
this band is that we know who we are. We
want to do one thing well and not try to be
something we’re not.”

HEAVEN & HELL
INTRODUCES THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
Highly Anticipated New Album from Dio, Iommi,
Butler, and Appice,
Their First in 17 Years, Features Epic First
Single “Bible Black”
Available from Rhino April 28
LOS ANGELES —
After finishing several heralded world tours
as Heaven & Hell last summer, Ronnie James
Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny
Appice were tighter than ever before, both
musically and personally. Agreeing that it
would be a shame to stop making music

anticipated set arrives on April 28 from
Rhino for a suggested list price of $18.98
(physical) and $9.99 (digital).
It took less than three weeks to finish the
album, with most of the songs only needing a
couple of takes. “It was good to play them
live in the studio. It keeps you on edge,”
Iommi says. “I mean, somewhere along the
line we were gonna have to play them live;
might as well start in the studio.” Butler
adds: “We’ve learned from the past that you
can kill a song doing it over and over. The
first Sabbath albums were done in two or
three days. Technically they weren’t great,
but vibe-wise they were great. If you
capture that feeling, that’s all you need.”
“Bible Black,” the epic first single, begins
with Iommi on acoustic guitar behind Dio’s
plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts to a
menacing stomp for the rest of this dark
tale about a book of sinister scriptures.

HEAVEN & HELL
SET TO REVEAL THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
Highly
Anticipated New Album From Ronnie James Dio,
Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice
To Be Released April 28 From Rhino.
LOS ANGELES —Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi,
Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice returned to
the stage after 15 years in 2007, launching
a triumphant world tour as Heaven & Hell.
Revitalized and inspired by its time on the
road, the quartet recently returned to the
studio, recording the band’s first album
since 1992’s Dehumanizer. The highly
anticipated album, THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, will
be available from Rhino on April 28.
“Everyone had so much fun playing together
that we didn’t want it to end,” says the
group. “We started writing together and the
songs started flowing like we never stopped.
We wound up writing and recording an album
that stands up to anything we’ve ever done.
We’re really proud of the music and excited
for people to hear it.”
The dark tone heard on THE DEVIL YOU KNOW is
clear from several of the album’s song
titles, such as “Bible Black,” “Rock & Roll
Angel,” “Breaking Into Heaven,” “Atom &
Evil” and “Eating The Cannibals.”
The seeds of the new album were planted in
2006, when Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice
returned to the studio to record a trio of
new songs for Black Sabbath: The Dio Years,
a recent compilation of essential tracks
taken from the quartet’s four albums
together. Soon after, the band launched a
run of sold-out shows around the world,
electrifying audiences with its malevolent
metal fury.

album) on February 7th at the Home of Metal
Momorabilia Archive Tour!
After the
successful first two legs of Home of Metal
the team is back in 2009 for the biggest leg
of this unique fans memorabilia archive
tour. With around 1000 visitors attending
the previous Open Day events that took place
at New Art Gallery Walsall and Wolverhampton
Art Gallery, the Birmingham leg looks to be
a very interesting and well attended event.
The event takes place Saturday 7th of
February, Waterhall. Birmingham Museum & Art
Gallery, 11am - 4pm
Fans of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas
Priest, Napalm Death and Godflesh, and are
being encouraged to bring along their
related memorabilia, photos and stories to
the museum to be recorded and archived on
the innovative
www.homeofmetal.com website that
will provide a historical resource for fans,
musicians, educational environments and
journalists alike highlighting the
incredible global impact of this genre of
music, which originated in Birmingham and
The Black Country.
“Heavy Metal was born in the West Midlands
and has developed a global following matched
only in Hip-Hop. Its time to stop sneering
and celebrate this proud cultural heritage…”
Daniel Trilling – New Statesman 30th July
2007
The archive is focused on the innovators of
the genre and those that continued to
develop it: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin,
Judas Priest, Napalm Death and Godflesh.
Ideally the organisers, Capsule, are looking
for fans to dig out their band T-shirts,
ticket stubs, photos, fanzines, autographs,
tour programmes, flyers etc to help
celebrate the Midlands musical heritage and
help to build a digital archive to tell the
true story of Metal and its unique
birthplace.
Home Of Metal aims to celebrate the bands
that helped put Birmingham & the Black
Country on the musical map, but also had the
imagination and talent to create new genres
and movements, all in their own individual
ways. From Black Sabbath, unquestionably the
founding fathers of heavy metal who
introduced a sense of darkness, the
supernatural, and huge, heavy riffs to an
era still celebrating peace, love and flower
power. Led Zeppelin, arguably one of the
worlds biggest ever bands, who were one of
the first to dirty up RnB and recreate it as
Hard Rock. Judas Priest, defenders of the
faith whose twin guitar attack paved the way
for multitudes of melodic metal acts in
their wake. The 80s and 90s are also
represented by Napalm Death, whose first two
albums introduced Grindcore to an
unsuspecting world, and finally Godflesh,
whose brooding, desolate soundscapes
pioneered industrial metal.
Apart from their postal codes and accents,
all of these bands share a common trait in
that they all were unwilling to conform to
the established rules and guidelines of
their respective musical scenes, and
instead, embraced originality and all
brought something staggeringly new to their
respective musical scenes, and for the most
part, established new genres, sub-cultures
and continue to inspire to this day.
Hosted by Kerrang! Radio presenter - the
legendary Johnny Doom + special guests /
films / a selection of memorabilia. Free
event everyone welcome.

Heaven And
Hell: Classic Rock Hears Their New Songs
Classic Rock
has heard three unfinished tracks from
Heaven And Hell’s debut album. In a
world-exclusive we visited vocalist Ronnie
James Dio, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist
Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice on
the final day of tracking at Rockfield
Studios in Wales.
Some final touches were still to be added;
for example Iommi wanted to add guitar solos
at his home studio, and the material was in
an unmixed state.
Due to be released in late April, the
album’s 10 tracks were co-produced by the
group and engineer Mike Exeter.
The songs we heard were a moody, thuddingly
malevolent number called Rock ’N’ Roll
Jesus, the pacier and more anthemic
Neverwhere, and a slice of sloth-like
majesty that’s likely to be titled Breaking
Into Heaven.
Other tracks expected to appear include
Bible Black, Double Pain and Atom + Evil.
With the band having recorded three tracks
for the Black Sabbath: The Dio Years
anthology and played around 100 shows as
Heaven And Hell, writing began at Iommi and
Dio’s houses in England and California
respectively, either side of the Metal
Masters tour of America with Motörhead,
Judas Priest and Testament.
“Each of us submitted a CD of our ideas, and
we narrowed it down from there,” explains
Iommi. “In some ways it was like picking up
where we’d left off with Dehumanizer
[Sabbath’s 1992 album], which was also done
at Rockfield.”
“I never thought this band would get back
together, but here we are,” marvels Appice.
“Everyone’s more mature, and when we play
together it’s just a monster.”
Touring plans are currently being finalised.
