Additional Heaven & Hell North American Dates Confirmed!

In addition to the twelve dates announced last month, we can now confirm the additional 8 dates that will make up the full run of North American dates for Heaven & Hell. Tickets for most of the eight newly added dates will go on sale the weekend of July 13. There will also be a special fan presale beginning Wednesday, July 11 at 12noon EDT at http://heavenandhell.frontgatetickets.com. The shows will be opened by Queensrÿche, will feature special guest star Alice Cooper on all but one date.

Following the group’s successful spring tour, Heaven And Hell will again wow American audiences with its bewitching stage set and truly timeless, classic metal as Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice return for the second U.S. leg of the quartet’s continuing world tour. Set to launch on September 5, Heaven and Hell’s tour will stop in many cities not included on the previous leg and will feature opening sets from Alice Cooper and Queensrÿche. Tickets for the first 12 dates will go on sale the weekend of June 22 with more dates to be announced soon. There will also be a special fan presale for the first dates beginning Wednesday, June 20 at 12 Noon EST at http://heavenandhell.frontgatetickets.com.

Last year, the iconic quartet reconvened to record a trio of songs for Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, a compilation that features essential songs by the short-lived, but beloved incarnation of Black Sabbath fronted by Dio. Dubbing the group Heaven And Hell after one of its signature hits, the band launched a much-anticipated world tour earlier this year. The group celebrated its first U.S. concert in 15 years with a sold-out performance at Radio City Music Hall. Recorded and filmed in its entirety, Rhino captured the historic concert for a CD and DVD release, Heaven and Hell Live From Radio City Music Hall, set for an August 28 release.

Alice Cooper and Queensrÿche will join Heaven And Hell on the road this fall creating one of the year’s hardest-hitting triple bills. In addition to his duties as a rock ’n’ roll icon, Cooper is the host of the syndicated Nights With Alice Cooper radio show. Cooper’s autobiography, Alice Cooper, Golf Monster, was released last month. Queensrÿche is riding high on the success of last year’s Operation: Mindcrime II album and tour, which brought the group’s complete Mindcrime saga to the stage in its entirety. On July 3, Rhino will release CD and DVD versions Mindcrime At The Moore, which feature Queensrÿche’s performance in front of its hometown crowd at Moore Theatre in Seattle.

Heaven & Hell win Golden God

Tony, Ronnie, Geezer and Vinny were in London last night for Metal Hammer magazine’s ‘Golden Gods’ awards. The band were presented with the ‘Resurrection Award’ by Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider at the ceremony at Koko in Camden. Other winners on the night included Machine Head, who supported H&H on their recent USA dates, Lamb Of God who will be supporting the band on their UK tour in November, and Bullet For My Valentine who are on the bill with Heaven & Hell in Vienna.

Heaven & Hell Live From Radio City Music Hall – Full Details & Release Dates

Fans lucky enough to score tickets to Heaven And Hell’s Radio City Music Hall performance on March 30—the concert sold out in a matter of minutes—were fortunate witnesses to the glorious return of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Onstage in the U.S. for the first time in 15 years, the group let loose an onslaught of iconic metal spotlighting Dio’s memorable tenure with Black Sabbath. Every bone-crushing riff and thunderous howl from the evening is relived with a trio of releases available in August 2007.

‘Live From Radio City Music Hall’ captures the band bashing its way through some of the Dio era’s best including “Mob Rules,” “Die Young,” “Neon Knights,” “Children Of The Sea” and an epic 15-minute-plus version of “Heaven And Hell.” The quartet also performed a pair of new songs—the hit single “The Devil Cried” and “Shadow Of The Wind.” Both songs debuted earlier this year on Black Sabbath: The Dio Years (Rhino/Warner Bros. Records), the first comprehensive introduction to the Dio era’s legacy. The DVD will include the entire show shot in breathtaking HD as well as a tour documentary and other bonus footage.

Following this spring’s successful U.S. tour, Heaven And Hell is scheduled to spend the summer playing concerts and festivals around the world. In early September, the group will return to the U.S. for another round of shows. Look for dates and a full lineup to be announced soon.

BBC’s Seven Ages Of Rock – Tony Interviewed

A film crew from the BBC headed up to the UK’s West Midlands before Tony went off on tour with Heaven & Hell to interview him for the brand new series ‘Seven Ages Of Rock’ which starts on BBC2 this coming Saturday. Tony took part in episode 4, entitled ‘Never Say Die: Heavy Metal’, which goes out on Saturday 9th June at 9.10pm on BBC2, and will be repeated the following day at 11pm on BBC1. The new issue of Radio Times has a special preview feature on the whole series which includes an interview with Tony.

We can confirm that Heaven & Hell will play at the 41st Montreux Jazz Festival on Saturday 7th July in Switzerland. More information, including tickets, is available from www.montreuxjazz.com. Due to some technical problems at Iommi.com HQ last week, we are slightly late confirming the Copenhagen date at the KB Halle on 6th June and the Offenbach show at the city’s Stadthalle on 17th June which you may have read about elsewhere on the web. USA Tour – Reviews just in…

The Heaven & Hell USA Tour kicked off earlier this week with the expected hype (hanging out at the LA show were Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield, as well as Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins and Chris Shiflett of the Foo Fighters amongst others). And we’ve just picked up a few reviews:

Guitar riffmaster Tony Iommi and bass wrangler Geezer Butler virtually invented arena rock nearly 40 years ago as half of Black Sabbath. And they continue to deliver the quintessence of clobber with Heaven & Hell….Iommi’s shuddering riff, like a shoulder thrust against a rusty sepulchre door, set the tone for what functions best in an echoing concrete vault: deliberate battery…By the time the four crashed to the conclusion of the dynamic ‘Falling Off The Edge Of The World’, the crowd was like a mass of asylum inmates clamouring for the coup de grace. It arrived with the dizzying extended build of the signature song ‘Heaven and Hell’, Iommi flaying demonic inspirations while Dio joined his virtuosic howls with those of the rabble. – LA Times

Iommi is still the one metal icon with taste and a sense of dynamics in a solo. He takes his position at stage left – just in front of the wrought iron and brick fence that surrounds the drums – and rarely moves; there is no posturing in this band, and as metal goes, the music is strong enough to speak for itself….nearly 15,000 people came to the Forum to pump their fists and celebrate this music as living and breathing. – Variety

While guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler were customarily low-key, their play spoke volumes, the left-handed guitar god demonstrating the fleet fingers that mark the band’s recordings…On a brick-backdrop-adorned stage flanked by two massive castle doors that were left ajar, gothic fencing, lanterns and three stained-glass window video screens, Iommi looked at home in his long black jacket and customary cross necklace, his solos on ‘Computer God’ and introducing ‘Dio Young’ eliciting an uproar from the crowd. – Livedaily.com

Iommi and Butler delivered inspired performances throughout the evening…Dio was everything you’d expect him to be….The fans knew all the words to all the band’s songs, including the new tunes recorded for the recently released compilation disc ‘Black Sabbath: The Dio Years’. Little needs to be said about the stupendous quality of the tracks from Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules; any self-respecting metal fan will salivate at the mere mention of Neon Knights, Heaven And Hell, The Mob Rules, Turn Up The Night and Falling Off The Edge Of The World…The real excitement will be generated by the three new songs included. Of these, The Devil Cried is suitably surly and doom laden, Shadow Of The Wind pounds a mid paced temp, and Ear In The Wall picks up some real velocity. None of these would have disgraced the classic Mob Rules. – Classic Rock 7/10

Best Buy Signing – Security Information Update

To confirm the updated security information for tomorrow’s signing at Best Buy in New York:

Only copies of Black Sabbath: The Dio Years will be signed. Everyone attending the signing will be searched before entry to the store and any other CDs, Sabbath-related merchandise, guitar parts etc will have to be left outside the store at the owners’ own risk. Security will be extremely tight at the event and anyone who fails to comply with security will not be allowed enter the store for the signing. The signing will take place from 6pm to 7pm at Best Buy Midtown, 529 Fifth Avenue (at 44th Street). As the band will only be at the store for such a short time it is requested that fans co-operate with all store staff and security to ensure that as many people as possible get their CDs signed. The Devil Cried – Digital Single Update

We’ve had confirmation from Rhino that the upload of the new Black Sabbath single ‘The Devil Cried’ to all DSPs (digital service providers) happened a few days later due to technical problems. The single was still planned for release yesterday (13th March) but may not have made the deadlines of some services including iTunes. We’ve been told that it will be up sometime between now and 20th March on all DSPs.

Tony featured in ‘Ian Gillan: Highway Star’ DVD

The DVD ‘Highway Star: A Journey In Rock’ which traces Ian Gillan’s career is due for release next month and includes a significant section on Gillan’s time with Black Sabbath. Tony talks at length about the period around the Born Again album and tour and talks about the nightracing and explosions at Richard Branson’s manor during the album recording, and the infamous Stonehenge stage set made for the tour. The documentary features contributions from the likes of Roniie James Dio, Pavarotti, George Best and Joe Elliott. Tony, Ronnie, Geezer & Vinny kicked off their 2007 tour in Vancouver last night at the city’s Pacific Coliseum. As the guys had been saying in some of their pre-tour interviews, the set consisted of material from the albums ‘Heaven & Hell’, ‘Mob Rules’ and ‘Dehumanizer’, as well as all three of the new songs that are being included on ‘The Dio Years’ compilation due out next month. Tour kicks off this weekend, more tickets on sale today

The first leg of the Heaven & Hell live tour kicks off this coming Sunday, 11th March 2007, in Vancouver in Canada. Mike C has posted the latest entry in his tour diary from Vancouver on the messageboard today. Tickets are still available for most of the dates in Canada as we write, but a number of dates are close to capacity.

For those of you hoping to attend the US shows, tickets go on sale today for Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, Albuquerque, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit, Uncasville, Lowell, Baltimore and Holmdell. San Antonio and Albany go on sale tomorrow at 10am local time, the San Jose show will be on sale on Sunday 11th at 10am local time and the Houston date goes on sale next Saturday, 17th March at 10am local time.

Heaven & Hell – Confirmed for Bulgaria

We can officially confirm that in addition to the other live European dates confirmed recently, Heaven & Hell will be playing at the Kaliakra Rock Fest in Kavarna, Bulgaria. The event, which takes place at the Kaliakra stadium, runs from 28th to 30th June. Heaven & Hell will perform on Thursday 28th June. Exclusive News: Heaven & Hell Descends On The States – US Tour Dates Confirmed!

Here’s the full official press release:
Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice will reunite for the first time in 15 years as Heaven and Hell Live to cast a dark spell over spring as the quartet tours the U.S. Tickets will go on sale the weekend of March 9 for all 20 stops of the American leg (except Houston, on sale March 17), which is set to launch in Phoenix on April 22. There will also be a special fan presale for all dates beginning Wednesday, March 7 at 12 Noon EST. The tour will follow in the wake of the band’s highly anticipated Radio City Music Hall concert in New York City on March 30, which sold out in a matter of minutes.

Last year, the hard-rocking quartet convened to record three new songs for Rhino Records’ era-spanning collection, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, due out April 3 on Rhino/Warner Bros. Records. One of the newly recorded tracks – “The Devil Cried” – is the first single. Bristling with the trademark Sabbath sound, the song is being well received by fans and critics alike.

The sessions for Black Sabbath: The Dio Years went so well that the band agreed to satisfy longstanding demands for a reunion tour. Set to launch in Canada on March 11, the Heaven And Hell World Tour will spotlight Dio’s tenure with Sabbath and will feature selections from all three of the group’s the studio albums, Heaven And Hell (1980), Mob Rules (1981) and Dehumanizer (1992), as well as the newly recorded tracks.

Multi-platinum recording artist Megadeth will join the tour and preview never before heard material from the group’s new CD, United Abominations, due out May 8 on Roadrunner Records. All dates will also feature Roadrunner labelmates Machine Head who are supporting their latest album, The Blackening, set for release on March 27.

The first single release from the new CD 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years' will be the track 'The Devil Cried' written & produced by Tony and Ronnie and recorded with Geezer & Vinny in November 2006 in the UK. The song was engineered and mixed by Mike Exeter who worked on 'Fused' and 'The 1996 DEP Sessions'. We've just had confirmation from Rhino that the single will be serviced to radio next week so keep your ears peeled!

Heaven & Hell get Heavy

Heaven & Hell are on the cover of the February 2007 issue of the German magazine ‘Heavy’. Journalist Jörg Schulz describes the band as a “mysterious sensation” and says that “for Black Sabbath fans across the world the news hit like a bomb” when the details of the reunion surfaced. Jarvis Cocker gets Paranoid

Jarvis Cocker ended his show at the London Astoria last Saturday night with a cover of the Black Sabbath track ‘Paranoid’. The Pulp frontman was performing songs from his new album ‘Jarvis’ at the sell-out show, and said including a cover at the end was his way of saying “thank you for listening” to his new songs.

Mob Rules: Every Home Should Have One

The Black Sabbath album ‘Mob Rules’ is featured in the “Every Home Should Have One: Albums You Should Own” section of this month’s Classic Rock magazine. Record producer Andy Sneap says “you have to give a lot of credit to Tony Iommi’s guitar playing on this record…Listen to the double-tracking and the lead guitar parts – he’s really going for it…There are certainly more riffs on Mob Rules compared to what happened on Heaven & Hell. Check out the riff at the start of Falling Off The Edge Of The World – that’s brilliant”. In terms of the production, he comments that “the feel of the album is raw, live and direct, which was exactly right for the time. If you consider that we were on the very of a major breakthrough in the way heavy metal was to be defined, with bands like Iron Maiden making their impact and Metallica about to get going, then Mob Rules is exactly what Sabbath should have been doing at this point. Celtic Frost frontman pays tribute to Tony’s style

The current issue of Guitar World magazine includes an indepth feature on Thomas Gabriel Fischer, frontman of Celtic Frost who talks about how he started writing music: “I used to sit there and dissect Black Sabbath’s music. I was interested in knowing why Sabbath sounded so dark compared to other bands. I tried to follow Tony Iommi’s riffs to figure it out, and what I realized is that other bands play their riffs logically. Their tones are in harmony, and it sounds nice because the tones follow each other logically. And then I realised that Tony always plays the tone that you don’t expect, and that’s what makes it so dark harmonically. I was fascinated by that”.

Tony Iommi, Ronnie James Dio and Geezer Butler Reunite to Record Three New Songs for a Collection of Essential Recordings from Sabbath’s Dio Years, Plus an Unreleased Live Album.

Together for a short but memorable time — a trio of studio albums, a classic live album, and a couple of tours — the second coming of Black Sabbath began in 1979 when founding members Tony Iommi and Terry "Geezer" Butler were joined by Ronnie James Dio. The former singer of Elf (and later Rainbow and Dio) added his fiery, demonic howl to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group's crushing mix of iconic riffs, gloomy grooves and doom-soaked imagery.

In late 2006 Dio, Iommi and Butler, joined by drummer Vinny Appice, reunited to record three new songs for Rhino Records' era-spanning collection, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years". These recording sessions went so well that the quartet — billed as Heaven & Hell — will launch a highly anticipated world tour this spring. The group will play eleven dates in Canada in March before taking the stage of the famed Radio City Music Hall in New York City on March 30 to play their only U.S. date until the band launches a full tour of the States later this year.

The first comprehensive introduction to the band's legacy, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" features a dozen classic studio recordings, plus one live track — "Children Of The Sea" from 1982's "Live Evil". The collection also contains the three brand-new tracks — "The Devil Cried", "Shadow Of The Wind", and "Ear In The Wall". The disc will be available on 3rd April 2007 at all physical retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested list price of $18.98. The album will also be available at all digital retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $11.99.

Arranged chronologically, the compilation spotlights Dio's time with Black Sabbath and draws heavily from the lineup's 1980 debut and 1981 follow-up, "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules" respectively. Recognized as back-to-back metal classics, the albums feature such signature songs as the title tracks, "Neon Knights", "Die Young", "Turn Up The Night" and "Voodoo". "The Dio Years" also features "After All (The Dead)", "TV Crimes" and "I" from the singer's brief reunion with Sabbath for the "Dehumanizer" album and tour.

Heaven & Hell Top Pollstar.com’s Top 50

Heaven & Hell have taken the top spot in Pollstar.com’s Top 50 printed in this week’s issue of the magazine (cover date 12^th February 2007).  The chart is compiled according to the number of times the artist’s tour itinerary is requested by fans visiting the Pollstar.com website.  The band take the first place slot ahead of Gwen Stefani at 2, Tool at 3, Red Hot Chili Peppers at 4 and Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band at 5, who were last week’s number 1.
