Another Tony interview online
Tony recently spoke to Mark Tinta of theweekinmetal.com:
"I took a lot of criticism over the years for keeping Black
Sabbath going even though I was the only one left and we had all
those different lineups.
You know, you don’t close the bloody factory if a worker quits,
do you? No, you carry on."

Tony pays tribute
to Pantera’s Dimebag
Following the sad news that former Pantera
guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott was one of five people killed
during a shooting at his band Damageplan’s show in Ohio on
Wednesday night, Tony has issued the following tribute:
“I was absolutely shocked by the news.
Dimebag was such a really nice genuine bloke and a great player.
He was always very respectful towards me and it was lovely to
have him on tour with us.
He will be sadly missed.”

Black Sabbath top
the poll in Revolver Magazine’s list of The 50 Heaviest Bands
Ever!
According to Dan Epstein, “without Sabbath to
lead the way, there would simply be no grunge as we know it, no
grindcore, no goth or black metal, no doom or stoner rock, and
Revolver would be running a list on the 50 softest bands of all
time instead”.

Tony opens new Laney site
Tony cut the
ribbon to open Laney’s brand new premises in Halesowen, West
Midlands yesterday (Thursday 2nd December). The site
houses the sales and technical departments and the production
line of the high-end valve amplifiers. The bulk of the building
is the warehouse for the distribution of Laney, Ibanez and Tama
gear. Laney moved from four separate factory units around the Cradley Heath area to the new premises last month.
Tony has a long association with the Laney brand, having used
their amps from the very early Sabbath days, and collaborated
with the company in the mid-90s to produce the GH 100 TI model.
The ceremony yesterday was the fulfilment of a long-standing
promise made by Tony to Lyndon Laney to perform the official
opening at their new location.

Tony talks to
bravewords.com about The 1996 DEP Sessions
According to Martin Popoff from
bravewords.com, “The
album [Tony & Glenn have] come up with sounds nothing like a
demo.
Instead, you get
eight lush, well-produced songs with both men writing in a
mature but still often heavy and doomy style.
On the lighter end, the balladic material is also first rate.
"I like 'From Another World'; I really enjoy that track," offers
Tony. "It's just got a nice feel. I love the way Glenn sings; I
love the feel of the song.
I like also 'It Falls Through Me'. I mean, they're both fairly
slow songs but they've just got a certain vibe."

Exclusive
News!
Iommi
material unearthed and scheduled for release in September 2004
8 tracks of
previously unreleased Tony Iommi material featuring the singer
Glenn Hughes is scheduled for release on 28th
September 2004 on Sanctuary Records under the title “The 1996
DEP Sessions”.
Read the
exclusive story behind the release here first!:
In 1996 Tony
Iommi was writing for his solo album and looking around for
singers who might do justice to his music.
Tony and
Glenn Hughes had stayed in touch since the “7th Star”
album and they arranged to meet, write and see what came up.
These songs were recorded as a set of demos in Coventry and
Birmingham in the autumn of 1996, the bulk of them at DEP
Studios, owned by local band UB40.
The original
players were Tony, Glenn (who sang and played bass), drummer
Dave Holland and keyboard contributions by Don Airey, Geoff
Nicholls and engineer Mike Exeter. No proper mixes were
undertaken and both Tony and Glenn pursued other paths, although
occasional conversations took place regarding the quality of the
material and their possible release.
In the
meantime a very poor quality bootleg CD became available on the
web which was missing some of the tracks and made from a stolen
cassette.
The tapes
were then stored until early 2004 when Tony reviewed the
multi-tracks in his home studio with a view to releasing them,
and setting the record straight.
With new
drums by Jimmy Copley (who had played on Tony’s “Iommi” album),
Tony and the original engineer Mike Exeter then got down to
mixing the CD, stripping the original performances back to
basics and giving them a clean feel.
Everyone who
heard the work in progress was amazed at what had been unearthed
and in a meeting with his label, Sanctuary, Tony played some of
the roughs to Cory Brennan and Merck Mercuriadis who both jumped
at the chance to release the album.
As soon as
Tony finishes headlining Ozzfest with Black Sabbath he’ll start
recording his next solo album for a release in the Spring of
2005. In the meantime be prepared to be amazed that what was
stored for eight years can sound this good.

Tony and Glenn – The Official Story
Contrary to what’s being said on other sites, the Glenn Hughes
tracks were only ever recorded as demos and there was never an
intention to put them out commercially.
However, Tony is currently reviewing all of the material, of
which there are in fact 8 original songs, and he will be
undertaking final mixes to ensure that the quality will be as
good as possible. The work is taking place at Tony’s home
studio.
These tracks will not be considered as Tony’s next album, but as
a piece of history too significant not to issue. Tony is
re-looking at these tapes purely as a result of the vast amount
of interest generated by fans and it is important to give the
fans a chance to hear the tracks properly rather than in the
form of the incomplete and poor-quality bootleg that is
currently doing the rounds.
