Where would our 100th issue be without one of our famously argument-inducing
“Top 100” lists? So after much debate of our own, we present you with the
Terrorizer Top 100 Bands Of All Time…
1. BLACK SABBATH
The relative importance of all the bands in our Top 100 line up can be debated
with one vital exception. Put simply, Black Sabbath invented heavy metal, and
without their immense influence and precarious longevity it is almost impossible
to imagine that metal and its many offshoots and sub-genres could have risen to
become what they are today. The impassioned pleas on behalf of Led Zeppelin,
Deep Purple, Hendrix, Blue Cheer or even The Kinks boil down to a great big zero
at the end of the day because metal is so much more than distorted guitar and
big trousers. Metal is power and attitude, it is liberating and life affirming,
and it is freedom and the essence of humankind. It, ladies and germs, is Black
Sabbath!
